This Naples lakehouse family loved their sunroom overlooking Canandaigua Lake, but could only truly enjoy it a few months each year. We transformed their underutilized three-season space into a fully functional, beautifully finished room that’s now the heart of their hosting and gathering.

A Beautiful Room That Sat Empty Half the Year

Unusable in winter: With no heat and only seasonal glass panels, the sunroom was off-limits from October through May—half the year of wasted square footage.
High maintenance, low reliability: Installing and removing glass panels every fall and spring became a chore, and the space wasn't fully weathertight, meaning rain could leak inside.
Extreme temperatures: The room became unbearably hot in summer and freezing in winter, making it uncomfortable whenever the family wanted to use it.
Exterior feel inside: The siding on the walls and soffit on the ceiling made the space feel disconnected from the rest of the home, despite the beautiful stone fireplace serving as a focal point.

The Design Process

We reimagined this sunroom as a true four-season extension of the home, centered around the existing stone fireplace. Our design incorporated custom millwork inspired by the family’s favorite local distillery, new Pella windows and doors for enhanced energy efficiency, and finishes that transformed the space from exterior-grade to a cozy interior living area.

Shadowbox wainscoting replaced the old exterior siding, creating a refined, finished look that finally matches the rest of their lakehouse interior.
